City Council & Elected Officials

The Torrance City Council is the City’s legislative body. It has seven members: six district representatives and one Mayor. Voters across Torrance elect the Mayor.

The Council sets policies, approves the city budget, and makes decisions that help maintain and improve the quality of life in Torrance. The Mayor and Councilmembers serve four-year terms. Each can serve up to two terms. The City Clerk and City Treasurer are also elected every four years. They have no term limits. Every two years in even-numbered years, the City holds elections.

The Council appoints a City Manager and a City Attorney. The City Manager carries out the Council’s policies and oversees daily city operations. The Council also appoints community volunteers to serve on city boards, commissions, and committees.

The Mayor and Councilmembers may represent Torrance on regional boards and committees. As elected officials, they are responsible for listening to the community and balancing the needs of all residents.
