Sharon Kalani was elected Mayor of Torrance on June 2, 2026, after serving on the Torrance City Council since her election to represent District 4 on March 3, 2020. She was re-elected to the City Council on March 5, 2024, and has built a reputation for fiscal responsibility, transparency, and collaborative leadership.
During her time on the City Council, Mayor Kalani has served as Chair of the Employee Relations and Public Safety Committee and as a member of the Finance and Governmental Operations Committee, Transportation Committee, and Armed Forces Day Ad Hoc Committee. She has also served on the Strategic Plan Committee and the Citizen Development and Enrichment Committee.
Mayor Kalani brings more than 25 years of executive leadership in banking, where she served as a Senior Vice President at Bank of America overseeing financial operations, strategic planning, and large teams. She also spent nearly two decades serving families and managing advance planning operations at Green Hills Memorial Park. She retired serving as Director of Business Operations for Coastal Funeral Center, now dedicating full time to public service.
A lifelong advocate for community service, Mayor Kalani has served for more than 30 years on the Board of Directors of the Torrance-South Bay YMCA, including as Board Chair. She has volunteered with Torrance Memorial Medical Center Hospice, has supported the Torrance Education Foundation and SoCalROC through scholarships, and has dedicated countless hours to organizations that strengthen the Torrance community
Mayor Kalani has called Torrance home for more than four and decades. She and her husband, Omid, have been married for over 37 years, raised their two daughters in Torrance, and are proud grandparents. Their family has owned and operated businesses serving the South Bay for more than 35 years, reflecting a lifelong commitment to the community they proudly call home.
