City of Torrance Announces Appointment of New Communications Manager

The City of Torrance proudly announces the appointment of Corbin Carson as the City’s new Communications Manager effective July 6, 2026. Carson brings more than 15 years of experience in journalism, public affairs, media relations, and strategic communications, along with extensive expertise in crisis communications, executive messaging, and public information. Throughout his career, he’s led communications efforts for local governments and major news organizations across Southern California.

As Communications Manager, he will lead the City's Communications Division, overseeing citywide messaging strategy, media relations, digital communications, public information, community engagement, and emergency communications, while working collaboratively with departments across the organization.

His extensive communications experience, trusted reputation in the industry, and passion for public service make him an outstanding addition to our leadership team. He understands the importance of keeping our community informed, engaged, and connected. His leadership will also help unify our communications efforts across departments so that we continue speaking as one City with one voice, delivering clear, consistent, and transparent information while providing the highest level of service to our residents, businesses, and community partners. I look forward to the expertise he will bring to our organization."

Most recently, Carson served as Public Affairs Manager for the City of Huntington Beach, where he led citywide media relations and executive communications, advising the Mayor, City Council, City Manager, Police Chief, and Fire Chief on strategic communications, crisis response, and public information. As the City's lead spokesperson, he directed communications during major emergencies and high-profile public safety incidents, ensuring timely, accurate, and transparent information. Prior to that, Carson spent more than a decade as an award-winning broadcast journalist, most recently as a news reporter and public affairs correspondent for KFI-AM 640 News/iHeart Media where he helped establish the station’s Orange County bureau. Throughout his journalism career, he covered breaking news, criminal justice, public safety, elections, healthcare, transportation, and local government across Southern California and Arizona. His work earned recognition from the National Association of Black Journalists, the Associated Press Broadcast Association, the Radio Television Digital News Association's Edward R. Murrow Awards, the Golden Mike Awards, and the Society of Professional Journalists.

Carson earned a Bachelor of Arts in Communication Studies from Arizona State University, before earning a Master of Mass Communication from the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication at Arizona State University, where he was recognized as the Outstanding Graduate Student.
