Torrance Recreation provides a range of youth sports leagues for kids in grades K–8, promoting physical activity, teamwork, and community connection. Programs include basketball, flag football, volleyball, and cheer.

Basketball

Our Youth Basketball League provides a fun and supportive environment where players develop basketball skills, teamwork, sportsmanship, and confidence. Open to all skill levels, the league focuses on learning the game while enjoying friendly competition.

Program Details

  • 8-week season with one game per week
  • Fee: $99 (includes team uniform)

Game Locations

  • Tuesdays: Dee Hardison Sports Center at Wilson Park
  • Saturdays: Wilson Park and TUSD middle schools

Teams are formed by grade level and the school or home address on file. Teams without a volunteer coach will participate as game-only teams and will not have practices.

Practice schedules and locations are determined by each team's volunteer coach.

Refund Policy
Requests submitted before June 11 are eligible for an 80% refund or a 100% account credit.

Volleyball

The clinic is for children in grades 2-4 and teaches the fundamentals of the sport. The Junior and Senior divisions will be placed on a team, have a practice and a weekly game on Saturdays. Grades may be combined. Each player participates in every game and will receive a uniform shirt. The clinic and games will take place indoors at the Dee Hardison Sports Center at Wilson Park.

  • Practices: Set by your team’s volunteer coach (schedule and location may vary)

Torrance Cheer Program

The City of Torrance Recreation Cheerleading Program is open to students in 2nd through 8th grade. Whether participants are new to cheerleading or have previous experience, this program emphasizes teamwork, self-confidence, respect, friendship, and the fundamentals of cheerleading in a fun and supportive environment.

Cheerleaders will support the City of Torrance Youth Flag Football Program by cheering on Saturday and select weeknight games.


Season Information

  • Practice Begins (Tentative): Week of September 14, 2026

  • First Games (Tentative): Saturday, September 26, 2026

  • Practices: Participants should expect to attend one to two practices per week.


Registration Dates

  • Residents: Registration begins July 14.
  • Non-Residents: Registration begins July 21.
  • Last Day to Register: August 14 at 5 p.m.

Flag Football

Youth Flag Football League

Our Flag Football League is an 8-week, co-ed program for youth in grades K–8. The program focuses on teamwork, skill development, and fun in a supportive environment.  Games are primarily held on Saturday mornings at Wilson Park, with older divisions occasionally scheduled on weekday evenings.  Download the Program Flyer and Registration Form(PDF, 741KB) or Register Online!

  • League Length: 8 weeks
  • Fee: $79 (Torrance residents) / $89 (non-residents)
  • Location: Wilson Park, 2200 Crenshaw Blvd.
  • Game Days: Saturday mornings
    • Older divisions may play weekday evenings
  • Grades: K–8
  • Format: Co-ed

Note: Grades may be combined. Please register your child for the grade they will enter in the 2026–2027 school year.

Youth Sports Recognition Program

Mission

The Youth Sports Recognition Program honors youth athletes and teams who have achieved significant accomplishments while representing the City of Torrance.


Eligibility

Nominees must:

  • Be a Torrance resident, or attend a school in Torrance
  • Be 18 years of age or younger at the time of the achievement

Eligible nominees may receive:

  • A Certificate of Recognition from the City Council
  • Placement on the Youth Sports Wall of Honor at the Dee Hardison Sports Center

Award Categories

Athlete

Individual athletes may be nominated for outstanding performance. To be considered for the Wall of Honor, the athlete must have achieved success at the state, national, or international level.

Team

Teams may be nominated for significant achievements. At least 75% of team members must be Torrance residents or attend a Torrance school. Teams must have achieved success at the state, national, or international level.


Selection Criteria

Nominations are reviewed based on:

  • Level of competition
  • Number of participants
  • Event requirements and frequency
  • Additional review committee criteria

Nomination Process

  • Gather supporting materials (articles, media, etc.)
  • Complete the nomination application
  • Submit by mail or in person to:

Additional information may be requested. Nominations are accepted year-round.


Recognition

Selected nominees will:

  • Receive a Certificate of Recognition at a City Council meeting
  • Be considered for permanent recognition on the Wall of Honor

Wall of Honor recipients will have a plaque displayed at the Dee Hardison Sports Center. Award items may also be displayed at City Hall for approximately 30 days.
