Management Aide Program

Launch your career in local government through the City of Torrance Management Aide/Assistant Program.

This paid, entry-level program is designed for current graduate students and recent graduates enrolled in or completing a master's degree program who are interested in public administration. Applicants should preferably have at least one year of paid or volunteer experience in the public sector.

As a Management Aide or Assistant, you'll gain hands-on experience working alongside City staff, apply what you've learned in the classroom, build professional skills, and develop valuable connections in local government.

Assignments may include a mix of administrative, professional, confidential, and specialized project work, depending on the department and position. Program placements last up to six months, with responsibilities varying based on the hosting department's needs.

What can I expect from MAP?

The Management Aide/ Assistant Program provides support and assistance to management personnel and performs assignments ranging from routine administrative tasks to more complex and varied professional, confidential and specialized assignments.

MAP offers a network of peer support composed of previous and current interns across various departments within the City. Further, MAP provides a welcoming environment where interns gain mentorship and develop professional relationships with senior staff and department directors based on assignments.
