David Kartsonis was first elected as Councilmember for District 1 on June 2, 2026.
David’s family moved to the South Bay from Kansas City, Missouri when he was 8-years-old. David earned his Associate of Arts Degree at El Camino College, before transferring to the University of California, Santa Barbara - College of Creative Studies as a Regents Scholar to earn his Bachelor of Arts Degree. Having started at a young age, David and his sister were the youngest graduates of El Camino College. His family has owned a business headquartered in Torrance for over 30 years, which is where he currently works.
David previously served on the City of Torrance Planning Commission since 2020, being elected three consecutive times as Chairman since 2023.
He also served on the Torrance Parks and Recreation Commission, where he worked to have an approved air quality monitoring station installed in North Torrance, as well as working to keep Torrance parks open during the COVID-19 pandemic.
He has also served on the Board of Directors for Torrance Cultural Arts Foundation, Torrance Refinery Community Advisory Panel, Torrance Rose Float Association, Torrance Chamber of Commerce Technology Committee, and the El Camino College Foundation.
David’ whole family is very active in the community. He and his wife have both served as Coaches and Board Members for North Torrance AYSO. He also currently serves on the board of the Torrance/South Bay YMCA.
David’s entire extended family live or work in Torrance, including his parents, sister and brother-in-law, and his nephews. David and his wife Mia have two children.
