Apply for a Board or Commission

The City Clerk invites certified citizens interested in serving their community to apply for the following vacancies:

  • Civil Service Commission
  • Historic Preservation Commission
  • Parks and Recreation Commission
  • Commission on Aging

Submit an online application using the form below or by calling (310) 618-2870. Applications may be dropped off in person at the City Clerk’s Office, emailed to CityClerk@TorranceCA.Gov (must be signed), or mailed via U.S. Mail to the Office of the City Clerk (3031 Torrance Blvd.).

Applications must be received in the Office of the City Clerk no later than Thursday, September 17, 2026, by 5 p.m.

 POSTMARKS NOT ACCEPTED. Applicants must be an elector in the City of Torrance and current on their Commission Certification. Applicants are responsible for scheduling interviews with the Mayor and Council. Commissioners are paid a stipend of $20 for each meeting attended. Must attend 2/3rds of the meeting to be paid, and stipends are paid quarterly.

The City of Torrance currently has 12 commissions, 1 council, 1 committee, and 3 boards that are advisory to the City Council. The City of Torrance accepts commission applications year-round for the annual commission appointments in June.
