Request Public Police Records

The California Public Records Act (CPRA) outlines who may request and receive copies of police records, along with any applicable exemptions.

Eligible parties include:

  • A victim
  • A victim's authorized representative
  • An insurance carrier involved in a current or potential claim
  • Any person who suffered bodily injury, property damage, or loss related to the incident

How to Request a Copy of Your Report

If you fall into one of the eligible categories above, please follow these steps:

  1. Complete and print the Request for Release of Police Records form
  2. Prepare a check or money order for $1.00, made payable to: City of Torrance
  3. Include a copy of your valid government issued ID
  4. Mail or drop off all documents to:
    Torrance Police Department
    ATTN: Records Division
    3300 Civic Center Drive
    Torrance, CA 90503

If You're Not in an Eligible Category

Even if you're not entitled to the full police report, you may still request call-for-service information or other non-exempt records under the CPRA. The Torrance Police Department is committed to transparency and will assist you in accessing any information you are legally entitled to review or obtain.

For assistance, contact the Records Division at (310) 618-5529, or submit a formal CPRA request online via the City of Torrance Public Records Request Portal.
