Police Explorer Program
The Torrance Police Explorer Program gives young adults ages 14 to 18 hands-on experience in law enforcement, leadership, and community service. Through training, mentorship, and real-world experiences, participants can explore whether a career in law enforcement or public service is right for them.
The Torrance Police Explorer Post operates through Learning for Life, a program of the Boy Scouts of America. Explorers build leadership skills, character, teamwork, and responsibility while participating in training, community service, and personal development activities.
Drill Instructors are former graduates and current Explorers. Drill, arrest and control techniques are taught by Sworn Officers. Physical training and drill will instill a sense of self-control, command presence, leadership, teamwork and mental discipline. Classroom lectures will give recruits a good working knowledge of police operations on subjects such as criminal law, ethics and professionalism, report writing, officer safety and community relations.
The Academy standards are high and demanding. Those who do not or will not meet the standards in academics, leadership, general performance and physical ability will be terminated or recycled to a later class. Those who measure up to the required standards will join the ranks of the most professional group of young men and women in the Exploring world.
