Youth Volunteer Leadership Training Program

We invite responsible students entering grades 10–12 to apply for the Youth Volunteer Leadership Training Program through the Recreation Services Division. This program gives students the opportunity to gain hands-on job training experience while volunteering in Community Services programs throughout the city.

Volunteer opportunities may include working with children at parks and day camps, assisting with office work, supporting youth sports programs as a coach, umpire, or referee, helping seniors at a senior citizen facility, or learning about nature and environmental issues at the Plunge or Nature Center.

The program fee includes training, training materials, a T-shirt, and a badge. Participants can earn up to 100 volunteer hours while developing valuable workplace and leadership skills.

Through the program, students will learn to work effectively with diverse groups, build communication and teamwork skills, and prepare for future jobs in recreation and community services. The experience can also help participants qualify for future part-time opportunities with the City of Torrance Community Services Department.
