The Torrance Police Department has been proudly serving the community of Torrance for over 100 years, and consists of 220 sworn police officers and 139 civilian professional staff.
The mission of the Torrance Police Department is to preserve public safety and quality of life within the City of Torrance, to respond effectively to the changing needs of the community, and to promote mutual respect between the Police Department and the people we serve. The Department's primary concern is community safety. The men and women of the Torrance Police Department are wholeheartedly committed to the goal of keeping our neighborhoods free from crime.
From the officers on patrol to the officers in our schools teaching children; from the Chief to the newest rookie officer...all maintain a strong spirit of commitment and service to the Torrance community. In return the Department enjoys a very high level of community support, without which we would not be as successful as we are. The Department always strives to remain at the forefront of policing by providing our officers with the latest in public safety equipment and technology, and by providing our officers with the best law enforcement training available.
The Department is led by Chief of Police Bob Dunn and is supported by an Assistant Chief and Command Staff, consisting of three Captains and a Services Administrator. The Command Staff is responsible for the major components within the Department's structure: the Administrative, Patrol, Special Operations, and Services Bureaus.
