Torrance Animal Control cannot accept surrendered pets.
Please do not leave your pet outside of our facility.

No matter what the reason for surrendering, saying goodbye to a pet is one of the hardest things to do. No matter the cause, giving up a furry family member is often a heart-wrenching decision, which pet guardians make because they don’t think they have other options—but they do.

If possible, please try the following before bringing your pet to a shelter:

  • Do your due diligence and make every effort to make the situation work, search online for help with behavior, health or other pet issues.
  • Post a photo and bio of your pet on your social media channels
  • Talk to your friends, family, neighbors, coworkers or other social networks about your pet
  • Contact a breed-specific rescue if your pet meets the criteria
  • Make your pet more adoptable by getting them spayed/neutered, microchipped and vaccinated.
  • Seek financial help with places like the Humane Society, vets, or charitable non-profits for potential financial assistance or to find local resources that might help with veterinary costs
  • Be transparent about issues so the rescue or shelter can match your pet with the right home and help them avoid potential issues that could make a pet unsuitable for adoption.

If you have made efforts to rehome your pet and have been unsuccessful, you may surrender a pet to a Los Angeles County Shelter.  The Carson Animal Shelter located at 216 W Victoria St, Gardena, CA 90248 will accept surrendered animals during normal business hours. Please don't leave a pet outside when the shelter is not open as this is very dangerous for the pet.
