FOR CURRENT 10TH, 11TH, AND 12TH GRADERS
The City of Torrance Community Services Department is seeking responsible high students entering grades 10, 11 and 12 to participate in a Youth Volunteer Leadership Training Program sponsored by the Recreation Services Division. The program is designed to provide the participants with job training opportunities while volunteering in various programs in the Community Services Department.
The job opportunities may consist of working with: children in a park, day camp, office work, youth sports (coaching/umpiring/refereeing), seniors at a senior citizen facility, a branch library or the Nature Center (learning about nature and environmental issues). Fee includes training, training materials, t-shirts and badge. This is an excellent opportunity to serve the community and receive 125 volunteer hours and on the job training experience. Participants will learn how to work effectively with a variety of people and how to prepare for a job in a Community Services setting. In addition, this valuable training will provide you with the skills you need in order to apply for a part-time position within the City of Torrance Community Services Department.
IN SERVICE SUMMER TRAINING:
(This one week training is MANDATORY)

Monday through Friday, June 25 - June 29, 2018
10 a.m. - 2 p.m.
VOLUNTEER SUMMER SERVICE: 125 Hours
July 2 - August 17, 2018
Between the hours of 6 a.m. - 6 p.m.
3 - 5 days per week
Time and location will vary according to assignment and there may be some weekend hours.
COST: $135 residents/$150 non-residents (includes training, training material, t-shirts and bad)
If you would like to be considered for the program, complete the YOUTH VOLUNTEER LEADERSHIP TRAINING PROGRAM APPLICATION (available May 1st) and return it to Torrance Community Services Department, Attention: YVLTP. Participants will be accepted into the program on a first come first served basis depending on their summer availability. Applications for Torrance residents will be accepted from May 14 to June 5 and for non-residents May 29 to June 5. Do not send payment with your application.
All applicants and parents must attend a mandatory meeting on Monday, June 11 at THE ATTIC from 6:00-7:00 p.m. Participants will be notified at the meeting of their acceptance into the program. Payment for the program is due to the Registration Office by Monday, June 18 at 5:00 p.m. Refunds and credits will not be issued for this program.
