 The Section 8 Rental Assistance Program is a federally-funded program which enables income eligible families, senior citizens, disabled and handicapped persons to reside in privately-owned, decent, safe and sanitary housing.

Payment standards do not indicate the maximum rent a landlord may charge; the maximum contract rent a landlord may charge is based on the reasonable rent for the unit and the family's income.

The Housing Authority allocates one bedroom for each two persons within the household, except in the following circumstances:

  • Live-in aides will be allocated a separate bedroom
  • Single person families that are neither elderly nor disabled will be allocated a zero bedroom
  • Requests for exceptions to subsidy standards must be made in writing.
