In the beautiful area surrounding the Santa Monica Bay, there are over 30,000 restaurants, bars, and eateries.  Ensuring the proper management of restaurant fats, oils, grease and other waste can make a difference in the condition of the Santa Monica Bay and in the health of those who enjoy recreation in and along the bay’s waters. Restaurant operators play an important role in reducing ocean pollution by properly disposing of wastes, keeping their facilities clean, preventing spills, training their employees and making environmentally responsible choices.

The Santa Monica Bay Restoration Commission (SMBRC) launched the Clean Bay Restaurant Program in 2008. Their specific mission is to improve water quality by reducing storm water runoff pollution generated by restaurant activities. The Clean Bay Restaurant Certification Program recognizes restaurants that choose to go above and beyond what is required by law to prevent ocean pollution.

The City of Torrance encourages your restaurant to participate in the Clean Bay Restaurant Certification Program. This certification means you received a score of 100% on your most recent inspection and have gone above and beyond local storm water regulations.

Upon becoming Clean Bay certified you will be presented with a Clean Bay Restaurant decal to place in your window, or other prominent location in your establishment, right next to your sanitation grade. Your restaurant will also be featured on the website and in press releases going out to local area media outlets.  Additionally, your restaurant will be included in those honorably mentioned at the Torrance Advantage Awards annual business recognition event. Brochures are available for your patrons as another means of providing more information regarding the Clean Bay cause.

If you're interested in learning how your restaurant can become Clean Bay certified, please send your request to the City of Torrance Clean Bay Restaurant Program Coordinator at
