The City Treasurer is responsible for receiving and depositing all monies coming to the City and is responsible for the investment of idle funds. In Torrance, the City Treasurer serves a dual capacity as an elected position and department head for the City Treasurer's office.
City Treasurer Dana Cortez started working for the City of Torrance on September 11, 2000 as the Deputy City Treasurer. She held this position until her election to the post that was vacated by the retirement of former City Treasurer Linda Barnett on June 2010.
Prior to her employment at the City of Torrance, Dana Cortez's public sector career began with the City of Hermosa Beach as the Deputy City Treasurer from November 1995 through September 2000. She also worked in the private sector as assistant controller for Liberty Savings and Loan, assistant controller for ET Consultant, Office Manager for Dart Warehouse Corp, and Auditor/Accounting Clerk for Park Hyatt Los Angeles.
Dana Cortez earned a Bachelor of Science in International Relations with an emphasis in Global Economics from the University of Southern California.
She resides in Torrance with her husband and their three daughters.
