About Records:  The Records Division is a service support unit within the Services Bureau.  Division staffing consists of a Records Manager, two Records Supervisors, and seventeen Police Records Technicians.

The Records Division operates on a round-the-clock basis, performing numerous tasks aiding our department, other law enforcement agencies, and the general public to gain access to necessary records.  Part of our responsibilities includes interpreting federal and state laws, as well as departmental policy in determining the release and retrieval of confidential criminal information.

Obtaining copies of Traffic Accident or Crime Reports

In order to obtain a copy of an traffic accident report, you must be one of the parties interest therein. This is included, but not limited to the driver or drivers involved, or the guardian or conservator thereof, the parent of a minor driver or the authorized representative of the driver or any named person injured by the accident.

Copy of a Traffic Collision Report Online
To better serve our citizens and insurance carriers in need of a traffic collision report, we have teamed with LexisNexis and have implemented an online dissemination program to provide our collision reports securely, online to involved parties, insurance companies and other authorized parties.

Effective 9/14/2018, the fee for copies of traffic collision reports will be $15

Save time - there's no need to spend the time, or money on gas or stand in line to request a report at Records Division.  Click on icon below to obtain your report.

IMPORTANT: Please allow a minimum of 15 days from the date of the accident to allow the report to be reviewed and approved for release by our Traffic Division.  Traffic reports resulting in a death/fatality, involving a juvenile or part of an arrest are not available online - you may only obtain those reports at our Records Division directly.   A nominal convenience fee will be assessed for the ability to retrieve your report online.  Citizens who do not wish to pay the convenience fee may still come to our lobby front counter during business hours to obtain a collision report; please be advised that there may be a long line or wait

Our normal Records Unit hours are 7:00am to 10:00pm Monday through Friday, CLOSED Weekends and Holidays.

Crime Reports

In order to obtain a crime report, you must be the victim of the crime.

If you are not named on the report, the Torrance Police Department is happy to assist you in obtaining or reviewing any records, documents, or reports to which you are legally entitled.

If your request is made pursuant to the California Public Records Act that request must be made to the Torrance City Clerk located in City Hall, 3031 Torrance Blvd., Torrance, CA 90503.

In person:  To obtain a copy of a report in person, you must have a valid photo ID.  Please complete the Report Request Form and return it to the Records Division during our normal business hours.  The cost for the report is $1 cash, check or money order. Please make checks and money orders payable to the City of Torrance.  We do not accept $100.00 bills.

By mail:  To obtain a copy of a report by mail, please complete the Report Request Form and send it to the mailing address indicated on the form along with a copy of your valid photo ID, check or money order, and a self-addressed stamped envelope.  Please make checks and money orders payable to the City of Torrance.  PLEASE DO NOT SEND CASH.

Obtaining a Clearance Letter

In order to obtain a clearance letter, you must have lived or currently live, in the City of Torrance.

In person: Please bring your current driver's license as valid proof of residency.

By mail: Please provide a notarized copy of your request, a copy of your vaild photo ID, check or money order and self-
addressed stamp envelope to the mailing address list above. The cost of a clearance letter is $26.

Narcotic, Arson, and Sex Registrant Information

Sex and Arson Registration:  To register as a Sex or Arson offender please contact the Detective Division at 310-618-5570.

Narcotic Registrant:  To register as an Narcotic registrant you must bring photo identification and current proof of Torrance residency such as a current utility bill with your name on it or a letter from a sober living facility. No appointment is necessary.

The registration process could take up to 2 hours.  Please allow yourself sufficient time to complete the entire process.

Miscellaneous Information

The Records Division does not accept $100.00 bills.

For in-person transactions over $10, most credit cards with a chip will be accepted.

For your convenience an ATM is available in the Lobby.
