The City of Torrance prides itself on its award-winning financial reports and conservative fiscal practices. However, like many California cities, as the demand for high-quality City services continue to increase, so does the cost. We also want to ensure that the State, County or other regional agencies don’t continue to grab our local funding—we want to exercise local control over our taxpayer dollars.
What are our City's core services?
Consistent with the feedback we’ve received over the last several years, over 93% of residents recently rated Torrance as an excellent or good place to live, which is great news! We continue to prioritize services our residents value most, such as: police, fire, and an environmentally sustainable city. We seek to maintain the local quality of life services you rely on, no matter what happens at the federal, state or county level.
What is the status of our police and fire public safety services?
Torrance is ranked as one of the safest cities in California and the nation by the FBI and other law enforcement experts.
Torrance residents are highly satisfied with our local law enforcement, fire protection and paramedic services. We continue to work hard to save taxpayer dollars by keeping insurance rates low and maintaining certifications. Moving forward, the City’s future budget and fiscal approaches will continue to maintain all of the services as our community expects and deserves. We will continue to keep you updated on our public safety service needs and priorities.
What have Torrance residents identified as top priorities?
In a recently conducted community survey, residents identified the following priorities:
Relieving traffic and congestion
Maintaining the condition of local streets
Maintaining storm water drains to prevent pollution into the ocean and local beaches
Are we all doing our part to maintain a clean and healthy environment?
Yes. As weather patterns are becoming more unpredictable and our oceansand waterwaysface greater pollution and threats from rising sea levels it is more important than ever to maintain a clean, healthy environment which continues to be a priority for the City.
