2020 Homeless Count Volunteer Opportunity
The Annual Greater Los Angeles Homeless Count, which takes place over three nights in January of every year, is right around the corner!
The City of Torrance is located in Service Provider Area (SPA) 8, and the count for our City will take place on the evening of January 22, 2020. The Torrance City Council has approved our Social Services Commission to opt in as a host of a deployment site. We will be partnering with the Torrance Police Department and South Bay Coalition to End Homelessness Bay to recruit and train volunteers to count all census tracts in our City.
This count is one of the ways administrators quantify the homeless epidemic that affects every City in our region, which helps guide funding and resources. Efforts like these help ensure resources are made available and appropriately utilized in helping individuals and families out of homelessness.
To find out more or to register as a volunteer, please visit www.TheyCountWillYou.org. Please share this information with others who may be interested in participating, as 8,000 volunteers are needed Countywide to cover each census tract and complete a successful count.
You are not limited to RSVP’ing to the Torrance site, and may opt to volunteer where you’re most needed, or closer to where you live, if outside of Torrance. Please note that this is an optional volunteer opportunity open to all residents of Los Angeles County.
