Parks and Recreation Commission Awards
Torrance, Calif., July 11, 2019 – The City of Torrance Parks and Recreation Commission recently hosted its 62nd Annual Awards Dinner to recognize community organizations, community individuals and City staff that demonstrate distinguished and exemplary services and events to the Community Services Department and our Torrance residents.
Four recipients were honored at the awards dinner. The Distinguished Organization Award was awarded to the Torrance Refining Company for their engagement with the Pueblo Community neighborhood and gracious donation toward outside improvements to the Ruben Ordaz Community Center. The Torrance Refining Company orchestrated a Volunteer planting day where Torrance Refining Company employees worked side by side with Pueblo Community friends and family to create a beautiful area that will be enjoyed by the entire neighborhood.
Two Distinguished Individual Awards were presented to both Bob Chiota and Joel Massa for volunteering to provide free Bocce lessons to the Torrance community, contributing their time and skill providing the public with the opportunity to become familiar with the game of Bocce. They support the City’s Adaptive Recreation Bocce Team Athletes and well as organized the first annual Bocce Tournament in the South Bay area.
Finally, Suzie Wand of Recreation Services was presented the Distinguished Staff Award for her hard work, dedication, professionalism and passion that she brings to the City of Torrance Community Services Department.
