Date: Sat, Oct 20, 2012
Time: 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM

Description: Before Afghanistan, before Iran, before Vietnam, there was the Forgotten War. The Korean War.

You can find out the real stories of this “conflict” from Bob Cashman. Cashman flew for the Forward Air Controllers. The term “ip close and personal” could have been invented for Chashman and the FACs.

Forward air control (FAC) mission was to ensure that the following fighters air attack hits the intended target and does not injure friendly troops. The first comprehensive airborne forward air controller program was developed in Korea.

By war's end, the United Nations air campaign had become so dependent on FAC's directing strikes on targets invisible to ground strike controllers that the ground strikers could go three months without directing a strike.

Cashman’s job certainly provided him with a front-row seat. He spent most of his time in front of the front row, hanging above enemy positions, in a low-and-slow observation aircraft, making sure that the "shooters" back behind him knew exactly where their targets were.

As always, WMOF Members are free; non-members are $5, which also includes access to WMOF museum exhibits. Free parking. BTW, a WMoF membership (www.wmof.com/newmem.htm) can be yours for as little as $50 annually giving you one-year unlimited FREE admission to the WMoF museum, all the Celebrity Series Lectures, Quarterly Newsletters, access to the research library and access to Special Events.
