Leadership Torrance 2011 is hosting a Virtual and Real Food Drive. Sponsored by the Torrance Area Chamber of Commerce, Leadership Torrance is a community organization that focuses on the development of effective leaders from across Torrance by building community connections. It provides opportunities for emerging leaders to take an active role towards building a stronger community. Each year a class project is created by Leadership Torrance that supports the community. The 2011 class chose a Virtual and Real Food Drive to benefit Torrance residents in need. Giving food and donations during the Fall and Winter holiday seasons are commonplace and traditional. But what about the rest of the year when those in need and the hungry still need assistance. We encourage you to give money via this Virtual Food Drive website where for every $1 raised, 5 pounds of food can be purchased and the Food bank is able to acquire and distribute food for 4 meals. Donations will be distributed to Torrance families through St. Catherine Laboure Catholic Church. Thank you for your contribution!

What was Hughes Aircraft like without the “Hughes”? Find out from the man, Ken Richardson, who bridged the gap between Hughes Aircraft founder eccentric Howard Hughes and General Motors’ purchase in 1987. Richardson started at Hughes out of Tufts as an engineer and 37 years later became president guiding 80,000 employees in a $7 Billion (1990’s) economy. The author of “Hughes After Howard - The Story of Hughes Aircraft Company” will share his wealth of experiences and that of 90 former Hughes employees. This is a remarkable piece of American aviation history as well as insight into Southern California’s love affair with aerospace. Learn about many complex products in all fields of electronics crafted by this highly motivated, inventive team. Prior to his current book, Richardson also co-authored “Testing Death: Hughes Aircraft Test Pilots and Cold War Weaponry.” WMoF members and non-members are welcome.
