Every year over 60 schools ranging from Fontana High School in California, to John F. Kennedy High School in Guam come together for the JROTC Golden Bear Nationals.
This year North (Torrance) High Junior Reserve Officers' Training Corps (JROTC) will host this national competitive event.
The schools compete against each other in different categories such as 4-man Armed, and Unarmed.
Free parking. Open to all.

The Torrance Sister City Association will be presenting its annual Bunka-Sai Japanese Cultural Festival on April 30 and May 1, 2011 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Ken Miller Recreation Center located at 3341 Torrance Boulevard in Torrance.
The Festival will feature performances, exhibits, demonstrations, workshops, martial arts, dance, music and other fun activities. Japanese food and gifts will be available for purchase. All proceeds will benefit the Student Cultural Exchange Program.

12:30 Tea ceremony. Traditional performed by Sakiko Monuki featuring Urasenke school.
1:10 South Bay Judo. The "gentle way" of self defense and discipline.
1:50 Naginata. A martial art of power and grace with sweeping movements.
2:30 Kendo. A type of martial arts known as the "way of the sword."
3:10 Classical Nagauta music. Mikko Henson will play classical songs on the shamisen, a stringed instrument.
3:50 Kishin Taiko. Large wooden drums played with sticks at festive events.

1:10 Dance. Bandomitsuhiro-kai will perform traditional dances by youngsters and women in kimono.
1:50 Koto music. Mrs. Awaya will play songs on her 13-stringed traditional instrument.
2:30 Traditional folk music. Matsutoyo-kai will play folk songs with the shakuhachi flute.
3:10 Aikido. Martial arts that focuses on self defense, physical fitness and spiritual awareness.
3:50 Isami Taiko. Gardena Buddhist Church youth group will play the big drums popular at festivals.

At least eight trucks offering all kinds of food, from Vietnamese to Southern-style barbecue to Mediterranean will be serving your favorite food. Famous trucks such as India Jones, Barbie's Q, La Rue de Paris, No Reservations Catering, Tasty Meats, Chunk N Chip, Valentino's Pizza and South Philly Experience will be there.
A disc jockey - DJ Dewey - will be on hand to play tunes as people dine.
Sponsored by the West High All Sports Booster Club, the party will be in the parking lot of the school and will raise money for 21 sports programs.
