Western Museum of Flight, 3315 Airport Dr., Torrance / Free Parking
The B17’s Target: Messerschmitt Aircraft Factory, Germany as given by Dennis C. Lord First in the Kansas Guard, then the Army Infantry, then joined a flight team, and assumed his role as a ball turret gunner. These were long days for "Little Jim" Ocamb, and short nights, never knowing the outcome. His travels take him from Kansas to west coast protection in 1942 protecting the Port of LA, advanced gunnery training, assignment to a B-17 crew and ends up on a first mission on D-Day out of Polebrook, East Anglia, England. Ocamb flew 14 missions over 42 days. First mission was on D-Day and his last, fatal misison was the famous bombing of Messerschmitt Aircraft Factory in Augsberg, Germany. Lecturer Dennis Lamb, a LA County Aviation Commisisoner and 35 year employee of The Gas Company, will guide you through short journey for “Little Jim.” Along the way, the 351st BG had a storied history there where Clark Gable did his propaganda tour and the "Ten Horsepower" story ended tragically for two Medal of Honor recipients. This is a crew-level story with some surreal surprises … July 19thy, 1944.  Don't miss it.
