We’re cutting down 100 million trees for junk mail and sending 254 million tons of municipal solid waste to landfills every year. If you’d like to help keep trees and other natural resources out of landfills, come to this TeachingGreen class, one of a six-part series on green living in Los Angeles. This month, it’s all about waste: junk mail, packaging, recycling, composting, you name it.

Come listen to an Ace! Doesn't get much better then this.
Brigadier General Richard Ritchie became the US Air Force's only pilot ace of the Vietnam War. He was the youngest instructor pilot in the Air Force Fighter Weapons School, (the USAF counterpart to the Navy's Top Gun program).
Ritchie is a classic example of the American tradition of what can happen when talent and self-confidence meet with good, old-fashioned hard work.
Now working as a motivational speaker, General Ritchie has granted us a place in his schedule, to share some of his experiences and reflections.
So come and join us. We promise you a memorable experience. Admission is free for WMOF Members. Non-members are $5, which also includes access to WMOF museum exhibits.
Location is Western Museum of Flight/Zamperini Field (3315 Airport Dr., Torrance). Free parking.

Coastal Cleanup Day is the largest volunteer day on the planet, which is coordinated with the Ocean Conservancy, California Coastal Commission, L.A. Department of Beaches and Harbors and Heal the Bay. Torrance recognizes that by cleaning up Torrance Beach, the community is participating in this global effort to keep our oceans healthy, to keep our water source healthy, and to keep our community healthy. This year's event will take place on Saturday, September 25, 2010 at Miramar Park in Torrance. The first 100 people who bring an unwrapped toy in support of the Gift 4 Kids Program will receive a "Team Torrance" Eco Friendly Water Bottle! Heal the Bay was ecstatic to announce that 2009 was the most successful Coastal Cleanup Day in our 20 year history, with 14,038 volunteers removing over 300,000 pounds (150 tons) of trash and recyclables from L.A. County's oceans, beaches, rivers, creeks, parks, and neighborhoods. Both numbers are new records for Heal the Bay and L.A. County.
