"Friday Fun" is a hands-on program for pre-schoolers, ages 3-6 years and their parents or guardians. The program will be offered at no charge every Friday of every month from 10:00 a.m. - 12 noon. Best to register on a Tuesday for that week's Friday Fun program. The program will incorporate story time, science, art and a tour emphasizing the chosen topic. Some weeks there will also be potting and other activities. The topics emphasize respect for all living things and prepare the children (and parents) to be good stewards of the planet. Join us for our restoration program every Saturday of every month from 8:45 a.m. - 12 noon on the Madrona Marsh Preserve planting natives, weeding, propagating or maybe watering new plants. Wear closed toe shoes, bring gloves and be ready to work. Refreshments are provided. Rain or a holiday that fall on a Saturday cancels this program. Be on time - late comers will not be able to work. Please join CSUDH professor Connie Vadheim for entertaining and educational classes on various native plant topics. This class occurs on the 1st Saturday of every month from 10:00 a.m. - 12 noon and repeats the following 1st Tuesday of every month from 6:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. Every month is a different topic - never the same class twice. Topics range from 'edible seeds and berries' to ' Chaparral communities and pruning techniques'. This month's topic is beautiful butterflies: food and habitat for our prettiest pollinators. After each presentation, Connie will lead the class through the Nature Center's Native Plant Garden to illustrate key points and inspire further discussion. Handouts are included. Come join the fun at the Mini Kids Club! Children will have the opportunity to participate in structured activities such as crafts, cooking and games. Participants must bring a lunch and wear closed toe shoes. A daily snack is provided. Enrollment will be limited to 20 participants per session. The fee for Mini Kids Club is $50 for residents and $55 a session for non-residents. A $10 late fee will be charged for every 10 minutes parents are late in picking up their child. This series of classes and tours of the Madrona Marsh Preserve will be led by Dinuk Magamanna, staff member at the Madrona Marsh and one of the youngest bird experts in the Los Angeles area. This series of classes will occur on the 10th, 17th, 24th & 31st Wednesdays of this month only from 9:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. Geared for college and high school students. All 10-25 year olds are also welcome. Free! Donations accepted. Pre-registration is recommended.
