Sunday, January 19, 2014 | 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM
Torrance Historical Society & Museum - 1345 Post Ave., Old Torrance
Talk about having an office with a window seat. For 37 years, Goodyear Blimp Pilot, John Crayton, had a bird's eye view of the South Bay and its ever-changing landscape. With a Light-than-Air license tucked under his wing, and having earned his Private Pilot's license at the Torrance Airport, he spent nearly four decades hovering above the Southland watching such events as the Olympics, World Cup Soccer, World Series, Super Bowls, Rose Bowls and Rose Parades -- all with the best seat in the house. On Sunday, January 19, John Crayton will share is memories of events, adventures and the transformation of the Southland's landscape from open fields to industrial complexes in a program entitled, "The Blimp - 37 Goodyears of Flying." Seating is limited and will be available on a first-come/first-served basis -- no reservations are required.

James Armstrong Theatre (Torrance Cultural Arts Center) 3330 Civic Center Drive
Back by popular demand with a brand new show created in part by kids from Torrance! Story Pirates celebrates creative writing by students from coast to coast in a loud, hilarious musical sketch performed by professional improvisers and musicians. The show is based entirely on stories written by elementary school students, and part of the show is made up on the spot by the kids in the audience. Story Pirates will delight and surprise with puppets, enlivening songs, and outrageous sketches, all the while motivating kids to pick up a pencil and write down their own fantastic adventures. Story plots run the gamut from kung fu ninja babies fighting crime, to flying cats and tickle monsters who rule the world.
