Honoring veterans in general and Vietnam veterans specifically, this month’s WMoF Celebrity Series (11AM-1PM) speaker is Colonel Marv Garrison, USMC. [Celebrity Series cost: WMoF Members are free; non-members are $5, which also includes access to WMoF museum exhibits.] The colonel was chief of the fighter section for the 7th Air Force in Vietnam. Col. Garrison certainly had a hawk's eye view, preparing the daily plans for strikes into North Vietnam and elsewhere, as well as coordinating peripheral operations. Garrison had an overall view of the Vietnam conflict viewing the entire complex of operations in the whole theater. After hearing about the fighter pilots of Vietnam, you – kids young and old – can build your own F-4 Phantom Ferocity with Kids Love Aviation Science Series presented by Pacific Coast Hobbies. Starting at 12:30PM, you can build your own F-4 Phantom Ferocity and take it home! In the process you’ll learn about aircraft technology. This Make ‘N Take session includes free entry to the museum. This event is presented in cooperation with Pacific Coast Hobbies whose staff will be on hand to assist with model building and answer technical questions. You can build as many models as you like. George Gershwin miraculously melded classical music, popular song, jazz, blues, and spirituals in this quintessentially American masterpiece that tells the poignant story of a crippled beggar, the headstrong woman he loves, and the community that sustains them both. San Francisco Chronicle praised Francesca Zambello’s production as, “a powerful Porgy and Bess…persuasively led by conductor John DeMain and sung by a strong cast headed by Eric Owens and Laquita Mitchell in the title roles… Owens brought vocal heft and dramatic sensitivity to the part of Porgy. Mitchell gave an evocative performance as Bess, compounded of tempestuous need and penitence.”
