"Friday Fun" is a hands-on program for pre-schoolers, ages 3-6 years and their parents or guardians. The program will be offered at no charge every Friday of every month from 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m., but a $5 donation is requested. Best to register on Tuesday for that week's Friday Fun Program. The program will incorporate story time, science, art and a tour emphasizing the chosen topic. Some weeks there will be potting and other activities. The topics emphasize respect for all living things and prepare the children (and parents) to be good stewards of the planet. Pre-registration is required. Space is limited to 20 children. This class occurs on the 1st Saturday of every month from 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. and repeats the following Tuesday of every month from 6:30 - 8:30 p.m. Every month is a different topic - never the same class twice. Topics range from 'edible seeds and berries' to 'Chaparral Communities and pruning techniques'. This month's topic will be Hummingbird Heaven: designing an elegant, water-wise Hummingbird garden. After each presentation Connie will lead the class through the Nature Center's Native Plant Garden to illustrate key points and inspire further discussion. Handouts are included. "Evening Under the Stars" celebrates the best in South Bay cuisine while raising funds for local charity. The 2014 Evening Under the Stars Gourmet Food & Wine Festival will be held on Saturday, August 2, 2014, at 6:00pm on the grounds of American Honda in Torrance. This year's event will feature multi-GRAMMY Award winners Tia Carrere and Daniel Ho with hula performances by Keali'i Ceballos and Halau. This annual event, created by American Honda Motor Co., Inc., and co-presented with the Torrance Area Chamber of Commerce, brings the South Bay Community together with local businesses and civic leaders to benefit the community. This 4 day program begins, Tuesday, August 5th and continues until August 8th from 10:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. will integrate science and art to gain a deeper understanding of these fascinating creatures. The students will explore the preserve and gain a understanding of biological adoptions that helps these animals survive in the wild. Additionally students will learn to illustrate these creatures to develop observational skills and to gain a appreciation for the beauty of nature. Ages 10-21. $30 to attend all 4 classes. The City of Torrance Community Services Department in partnership with The Home Depot will be hosting the Carpenter Wagon Program this summer. Staff will help children ages 6-14 create a variety of wood craft projects. Parents/guardians must be present in order for the child to participate. Sessions are limited to 20 children per session and are offered on a first come first served basis. Registration will be taken 10 minutes prior to the start of each session. The program will incorporate story time, science, art and a tour emphasizing the chosen topic. Some weeks there will be potting and other activities. The After School Club Program is geared towards youth in elementary and middle schools. This recreation program is designed to promote self-esteem through group interaction and self-expression. The program offers games, sports, music, group discussions, guest speakers and a wide variety of activities. Structured time is set aside for homework each day. This is not a tutorial based program. This program is based on a ratio of one staff member per ten youth at Elementary School and one staff member per thirteen youth at Middle Schools. Enrollment is limited at all schools. The After School Club Program is geared towards youth in elementary and middle schools. This recreation program is designed to promote self-esteem through group interaction and self-expression. The program offers games, sports, music, group discussions, guest speakers and a wide variety of activities. Structured time is set aside for homework each day. This is not a tutorial based program. This program is based on a ratio of one staff member per ten youth at Elementary School and one staff member per thirteen youth at Middle Schools. Enrollment is limited at all schools. "Friday Fun" is a hands-on program for pre-schoolers, ages 3-6 years and their parents or guardians. This program will be offered at no charge every Friday of every month from 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m., but a $5 donation is requested. Best to register on Tuesday for that week's Friday Fun Program. The program will incorporate story time, science, art and a tour emphasizing the chosen topic. Some weeks there will be potting and other activities. The topics emphasize respect for all living things and prepare the children (and parents) to be good stewards of the planet. Space is limited to 20 children. Pre-registration is required.
