Somehow, pal Sky Masterson accepts Nathan Detroit’s bet that he can’t get Ms. Brown to take a trip to Havana, Cuba. Throw in Miss Adelaide who wants to marry Nathan and you have a plot filled with intrigue and plenty of great songs including, “Luck be a Lady,” and “Sit Down You’re Rockin’ the Boat.”

James Armstrong Theatre [Torrance Cultural Arts Center] 3330 Civic Center Drive
Using a wide variety of musical ensembles, multi-media, and narration, this exciting and innovative event takes the audience on an epic journey through the familiar sounds of American war-time music from the Revolutionary War to today. Throughout our nation’s history, times of war and conflict have given birth to some of our most memorable and cherished music. Whether songs of love or loss, patriotism or protest; these are the tunes which were sung around pianos in our homes and in our town squares. They are the melodies heard on the radio and carried in the hearts of American servicemen to battle fields around the world. And this is often the music that would define an era, unite our communities, and help to heal the wounds of a nation at war.

Brubeck and Bernstein, Gershwin and Fosse, and numerous other American composers of the 20th Century were deeply enchanted, influenced and inspired by the leading jazz figures of Armstrong, Ellington, Good man, and Dorsey. All that jazz swept this nation and made its magical mark on the world of music. Come swing in your seat, dance in the aisle and cheer with delight as we spend this night with choral music and All That Jazz. 2013 Los Cancioneros scholarship winner, Julia Springer will be performing with the group at this special concert.
