Using a wide variety of musical ensembles, multi-media, and narration, this exciting and innovative event takes the audience on an epic journey through the familiar sounds of American war-time music from the Revolutionary War to today. Throughout our nation’s history, times of war and conflict have given birth to some of our most memorable and cherished music. Whether songs of love or loss, patriotism or protest; these are the tunes which were sung around pianos in our homes and in our town squares. They are the melodies heard on the radio and carried in the hearts of American servicemen to battle fields around the world. And this is often the music that would define an era, unite our communities, and help to heal the wounds of a nation at war.

Saturday, June 21, 2014 | 10:00 AM - 1:00 PM
Western Museum of Flight (3315 Airport Dr., Torrance)
Much like Elvis and Lisa, few planes are automatically recognized by merely a one word name. The United States had the Mustang, Kingcobra, Tomahawk, Hellcat, Bearcat, Wildcat and the Corsair. The Japanese had “The” Zero. Never has the word “zero” been filled with more meaning. It was the Jaguar or Porsche of fighter planes. The Mitsubishi Zero fighter in the hands of a skilled pilot, its speed, maneuverability, and armament were devastatingly effective in duels between Japanese and American airmen. The Zero was both respected and feared. The Zero will land on the Torrance Airport tarmac at 10AM and be viewing until 2PM. The Celebrity Speaker will start at 11AM. As always the WMoF museum is open to all Lecture guests. The saga of this impressive weapon of war has been thoroughly explored and researched by a knowledgeable individual, Dan King, who is uniquely qualified to bring this story to light. Fluent in the Japanese language, and having had the opportunity to live and work in Japan, where he interviewed many of the surviving Zero pilots, Dan also visited many of the island combat theaters, throughout the Pacific, where Japanese and American pilots faced one another. The result is an authoritative and compelling story, told in his new book, The Last Zero Fighter. Join us for the real story from Dan King. WMoF Members are free; non-members are $5, which also includes access to WMoF museum exhibits. Free parking. Support YOUR community’s unique museum and place in history: WMoF Annual Memberships (wmof.com/newmem.htm) always available. The annual membership – individual, family or business - gives you one-year unlimited FREE admission to Celebrity Lectures, Quarterly Newsletter and access to the research library (Includes Membership Card), access to Special Events and will be listed in Annual publications.
