Lt. Gen. Brian A. Arnold (retired) assumed command (2001) of the Space and Missile Systems Center (SMC) (LA Air Force Base, El Segundo) just four months after receiving his fourth star and only 16 months after his third star. As SMC Commander, Arnold oversaw 6,500 employees and an annual budget in excess of $10 billion. He retired (2005) after serving his country for 34 years. Arnold became, and currently serves as, Vice President Space Strategy at Raytheon overseeing 10,000-plus employees. This is a chance to hear and interact with a person who truly had his finger on the pulse of this country’s space and missile program. The mission of the USAF is to “fly, fight and win...in air, space and cyberspace”. SMC is considered the birthplace of military space, and center of military space acquisition excellence that has a mission to deliver resilient and affordable space capabilities for the nation. General Arnold certainly helped shape that mission. Arnold spent the majority of his Air Force career serving as a pilot (over 3,000 hours) in FB-111 and B-52 aircraft; as a squadron commander, wing commander and subunified commander. General Arnold received the Distinguished Service Medal, Defense Superior Service Medal, Legion of Merit with oak leaf cluster, Meritorious Service Medal with silver oak leaf cluster, Joint Service Commendation Medal, the Air Force Commendation and Air Force Achievement Medals, National Defense Service Medal with two bronze stars and Global War on Terrorism Service Medal among others. As always, WMOF Members are free; non-members are $5, which also includes access to WMOF museum exhibits. Free parking. BTW, a WMoF membership (www.wmof.com/newmem.htm) can be yours for as little as $50 annually giving you one-year unlimited FREE admission to the WMoF museum, all the Celebrity Series Lectures, Quarterly Newsletters, access to the research library and access to Special Events.
