Join the Torrance Historical Society for a Summer Stroll -- a docent-led tour into some of the hip new restaurants in Old Torrance for a sip & a snack, and a peek into the past behind the brick and mortar. When Torrance was founded 100 years ago, business began to build. Downtown Torrance, which was in the center of the original footprint of the City, soon became the heartbeat of the town. A century later, many a business has come and gone through those old buildings - they each have a story to tell. Not only will you learn the building’s history, you'll see old photos showing the “before”, as you stand in the “now.” Some of the buildings on tour include - The Red Car, Tortilla Cantina, BFD, Just Luigi’s, Amore Vino, Torrance Bakery, and more. "Friday Fun" is a hands-on program for preschoolers, ages 3-6 years and their parents or guardians. The program will be offered at no charge every Friday from 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. Call Tuesday morning for that week's Friday Fun Program. The program will incorporate story time, science, art and a tour emphasizing the chosen topic. Some weeks there will also be potting or other activities. The topics emphasize respect for all living things and prepare the children (and parents) to be good stewards of the planet. Free! Donations accepted. Pre-registration is required. Join us for our restoration program every Saturday from 8:45 a.m. - 12 noon on the Preserve planting natives, weeding, propagating or maybe watering new plants. Wear closed toe shoes, bring gloves and be ready to work. Refreshments are provided. Rain cancels this program. Late comers will be sent away. If you are 15 years or younger you must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Captain Richards will discuss how astronauts are chosen and trained, as well as his experiences in space. He will be available for questions.
