A special exhibit will highlight the L-19 Birddog. The Birddog was the Army’s first plane … after the Army and Air force were split into two separate services (1947). The Birddog’s mission was to find the enemy and orbit overhead until artillery could be brought to bear on the enemy ala in the manner of a bird dog (gun dog) used by game hunters. During the decade of the 50’s, Cessna delivered 3,241 Birddogs to the Army. At noon, you’ll hear firsthand accounts of heroic combat search and rescue forces (CSAR) missions from Ben Williams, Lt. Col., USMC. Related books on sale with authors present to discuss and sign their works As always, WMOF Members are free; non-members are $5, which also includes access to WMOF museum exhibits.
