Author Dr. Gary Fogel chronicles the “firsts” of soaring in the San Diego area, including flights made by Charles Lindbergh, William Hawley, John Robinson (first three-time National Soaring Champion; first in the world to fly over 30,000 feet in a sailplane; first American to fly over 300 miles cross-country) and many more. Fogel’s paperback, Wind and Wings: The History of Soaring in San Diego, is a fascinating documentary, with historical accuracy, accompanied by original photographs of the historic gliders.
