    <description>Date: Sat, Nov 19, 2011
Time: 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM

Description: The Western Museum of Flight (WMoF) continues its Celebrity Lecture Series with the History of Soaring presented by Dr. Gary Fogel.

Author Dr. Gary Fogel chronicles the “firsts” of soaring in the San Diego area, including flights made by Charles Lindbergh, William Hawley, John Robinson (first three-time National Soaring Champion; first in the world to fly over 30,000 feet in a sailplane; first American to fly over 300 miles cross-country) and many more.

Fogel’s paperback, Wind and Wings: The History of Soaring in San Diego, is a fascinating documentary, with historical accuracy, accompanied by original photographs of the historic gliders. Fogel will take the excitement from the Gliderport to the podium in this WMoF Celebrity Series Lecture.

December 17th WMoF Celebrity Lecture: Ryan Aeronautical and the Unmanned Vehicle as presented by Aeronautical Engineering Veteran Barry Tyson.
