The City of Torrance is not the only one extolling a Centennial this year. Sharing the City's 100 birthday, is also the Torrance Fire Dept. (TFD) - celebrating a century of community service. The TFD started as a volunteer organization during the very first meeting of the town's leadership in 1912.
Retired Torrance Fire Fighter and historian, Jim Ellingson, will highlight the history of what began as a one-man volunteer fire department, and grew into a Class One rated team of dedicated Firefighters. Jim has also written a book on the history of the Torrance Fire Dept., and it will be available for purchase and signing.
Light refreshments will be served.
