Join Cindy Reid, the author of "Harley the Harlequin Bug", for an afternoon of science and fun for the whole family. Thr program will focus on the life cycle of the Harlequin bug along with diet, anatomy, habitat and means of defense. Following the presentation, participants will all get their own live Harlequin bug to observe with magnifiers and microscopes. We will finish up the lesson with a puzzle craft and head out onto the preserve to look for Harlequin bugs in the marsh. Please dress for the weather. The Art of Digital Photography Basic Digital Photography I Demystifying your Camera Settings **$79.00 - Wednesday, 6:30-8:30 March 6th thru March 27th ALL those buttons and dials got you mystified? This course will simplify it for you. Aperture, shutter speed and ISO made easy! Each student will receive individual attention to help them assess and improve their skills. Understand your camera and learn the essentials for creating a great image! 1. Camera settings, jpg and RAW. Explaining the need for calibrating your monitor and how its done. 2. Uploading and organizing images in your computer. Basic image processing (exposure and color correction). 3. * Field shoot in the Marsh (Sunday, 8:00am-12:30pm on March 24th) 4. Field shoot review - individuals images will be evaluated and suggestions given. * NOTE: NO CLASS on March 20th. Class 3 is a field shoot on Sunday, March 24th from 8:00am-12:30pm. Learn how to: prepare soil for planting on the Marsh, grow native plants for restoration and fund raising events at the Madrona Marsh, 'pot up' plants to larger containers, collect and 'clean' seeds and prune native plants in the nursery. "Friday Fun" is a hands-on program for preschoolers, ages 3-6 years and their parents or guardians. The program will be offered at no charge every Friday of every month from 10:00 a.m. - 12 noon. Best to register Tuesday for that week's Friday Fun Program. The program will incorporate story time, science, art and a tour emphasizing the chosen topic. Some weeks there will also be potting or other activities. The topics emphasize respect for all living things and prepare the children (and parents) to be good stewards of the planet. Join us for our Habitat Restoration Program every Saturday of every month from 8:45 a.m. - 12 noon on the Madrona Marsh Preserve planting natives, weeding, propagating or maybe watering new plants. Wear closed toe shoes, bring gloves and be ready to work. Refreshments are provided. Rain or a holiday that fall on a Saturday cancels this program. Be on time - late comers will not be able to work. A beginner's guide to birds, bird life and behavior. This month's topic is: A Season for Ducks - featuring American Wigeon, Cinnamon, Blue-winged and Green-Winged Teals and Gadwall (aside of Canvasback and Ruddy Ducks). Each class will include a short presentation about the featured birds followed by a walk on the Madrona Marsh Preserve to look for them. This program occurs on the 3rd Saturday of every month from 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. Bring binoculars and wear comfortable shoes. Classes are limited to 20 students. Ages 9+. Free! Donations accepted.
