The Library is working on a new Plan of Service, designed to guide your public library into the future. This is a multi-part process, and it is time to hear directly from you! We are asking you ~ a library user, non-user, former-user, or future-user ~ to spend about an hour and a half of your time with us, to tell us a bit about yourself, your needs, your aspirations, and how your public library can help. There is no homework, no age limit, and no requirements for participation. Though you will be asked for some brief demographic data, your thoughts and opinions will be shared only with the group and will be anonymous in the final Plan of Service. In order to participate, you just have to show up ready to share, and plan to stay the entire time for the focus group process. Beverages and refreshments will be provided. We are asking all those with an interest in their community, and in their public library, to spend some time helping us with this process. The more meaningful the input, the more meaningful the outcome ~ please join me!

Enter Beth Bailey, Suzannah's newly hired assistant, a gregarious highly motivated daughter of the South. Beth explodes into the Hayden household and whips it into an organized, well run machine. When Gibby realizes it's Suzannah's career Beth is really after, he sets out to save his marriage aided by Suzannah's best friend. Western Museum of Flight, 3315 Airport Dr., Torrance
G. Pat Macha, described as the “the Indiana Jones of plane wrecks”, will tell the tale of the Vultee Legacy and history of the Vultee Aircraft Company. Macha, a retired history teacher has identified 3,700 plane crash sites in California and visited more than 800 such sites. Author of three books and aircraft historian, Macha is familiar with the legend of Vultee founders Jerry Vultee and Vance Breese; the Vultee Aircraft Corporation and eventual merger with Consolidated Aircraft Corporation (1943) to form the Consolidated Vultee Aircraft Corporation, i.e., Convair. Vultee and Breese had redesigned the V-1 aircraft to meet American Airlines' needs and gave birth to the new eight-passenger V-1A. American purchased 11 V-1As. The Vultee died when the twin-engine Douglas DC-2s and DC-3s came on the scene. By 1937 Jerry Vultee had his own production factory in Downey with orders for V-1s, V-1As and V-11s. Regrettably in 1938, Jerry Vultee died when the plane he was piloting crashed in a snowstorm near Sedona, Arizona. Vultee Aircraft Division began to develop military designs creating the BT-13, BT-15, and SNV Valiant trainers, V-72 Vengeance, etc. The XP-54 fighter project was the last Vultee Aircraft design. As always, WMOF Members are free; non-members are $5, which also includes access to WMOF museum exhibits. Free parking. BTW, a WMoF membership (www.wmof.com/newmem.htm) can be yours for as little as $50 annually giving you one-year unlimited FREE admission to the WMoF museum, all the Celebrity Series Lectures, Quarterly Newsletters, access to the research library and access to Special Events.

Donizetti’s charming comedy is a celebration of innocence, so what setting could be better than a small Italian-American community in Napa Valley, circa 1915? In this ingenious update, the naïve Nemorino believes that a love potion will win him Adina’s heart. Blossoming from a shy Italian immigrant to a plucky entrepreneur, he captures both his sweetheart and the American dream over the course of this delightful opera buffa. Tenor Ramon Vargas superbly embodies the role of the lovesick Nemorino. The beautiful but aloof Adina is sung by soprano Inva Mula. Recorded fall 2008, War Memorial Opera House, San Francisco. In Italian; English subtitles; one intermission.

Cultural Arts Center - Armstrong Theatre Plaza
The City of Torrance is pleased to host a piano on the plaza of the Cultural Arts Center as part of the broad-scale public art installation “Play Me, I’m Yours” by artist Luke Jerram from Thursday, April 12 through Thursday, May 3, 2012. “Play Me, I’m Yours” is being presented in 30 locations around Los Angeles County by the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra (LACO) to culminate their season-long celebration of Music Director / Pianist Jeffrey Kahane’s 15th anniversary. The pianos, decorated by professional and amateur artists and groups, are being placed in high traffic public spaces to foster hubs of creativity through spontaneous music making. They will be available to the public to play 24 hours per day, 7 days a week without a fee or reservation required. City of Torrance Mayor, Frank Scotto said,” We’re excited to participate in a growing international legacy. The combination of innovation and creativity is a perfect fit for the Torrance community.” Torrance’s piano will be decorated by Roseline Seng, a Torrance resident and LACO’s graphic designer. The public is invited to attend any of the locations for the “Play Me, I’m Yours” kick-off on Thursday, April 12 at noon with 30 pianists, both local music students and acclaimed musicians, on all 30 pianos simultaneously performing Complete Preludes from Bach’s The Well-Tempered Clavier, Book 1. Chairs will be set up at the Torrance Cultural Arts Center plaza for the event. Other locations in the South Bay/Harbor area include the Warner Grand Theatre in San Pedro and the Watts/Willowbrook Boys & Girls Club.
