Torrance Historical Society & Museum - 1345 Post Ave., Old Torrance
This docent-led tour begins at the Torrance Historical Museum, and will point out a number of historic sites and landmarks of Old Torrance (founded 1912), along the way. You will also learn how the City and some of the streets in Downtown got their name, where the first public library originated, the original boundaries of the City, where Buffy the Vampire Slayer was filmed and more. The tour is an easy, but brisk walk covering eight blocks. It's open to the public, requires no reservations, and is hosted on the fourth Sunday of every month, May - October. Comfortable walking shoes are recommended -- bring your camera, and a friend!

Join Cindy Reid every 4th Tuesday and 4th Wednesday of every month from 10:00 a.m. - 12 noon (rain or shine) for a hands-on science nature class. Emphasis will be placed on caring for the natural world and being good stewards of the planet. This month's topic will be Butterflies and Moths. The first hour will be in the classroom for stories, a craft and science including live animals or plants and microscope use. The second hour will be out on the Madrona Marsh Preserve to search for the things that we just studied. You will need to register for each class, starting on the first of that month. Only 12 children may attend each class. We will do our best to be fair. A wait list up to 4 children may signed-in and dropped off for the first hour; parents may watch quietly in the back of the classroom. No younger siblings will be allowed in the classroom, but they are welcome to join us for the marsh walk. Ages 6-8 years. $5 donation requested per student. "Friday Fun" is a hands-on program for pre-schoolers and their parents or guardians. The program will be offered at no charge every Friday of every month from 10:00 a.m. - 12 noon. Best to register on Tuesday for that week's Friday Fun program. The program will incorporate story time, science, art and a tour emphasizing the chosen topic. Some weeks there will also be potting and other activities. The topics emphasize respect for all living things and prepare the children (and parents) to be good stewards of the planet. Wear closed toe shoes, bring gloves and be ready to work. Refreshments are provided. Rain or a holiday that fall on a Saturday cancels this program. Be on time - late comers will not be able to work.
