    <description>Date: Sat, Feb 12, 2011
Time: 11:00 AM - 5:00 PM

Description: The premise of the show is to spotlight a selection of established California based artists who gained prominence and/or were developing important bodies of work during the 1960's.

GALLERY TWO: Simon Willems - A CERTAIN WAY TO FADE - This project is part of a broader one that takes contemporary news stories about hermits as a lens through which to foreground personalised utopias. Like other recent motifs the work engages with the rhetoric of belief systems, their failure, as well as the complexity of individual choice and purpose.

Time: 8:00 PM

Description: Pride, sorrow, love, and passion are universal themes that transcend cultural boundaries. Through its purity of form, rhythms, and intensity, flamenco strikes primal chords in the emotions of audiences of all ages, all cultures, and all degrees of exposure to the arts. Flamenco is considered worldwide to be one of the riches expressions of folklore. It is inherently a multicultural art form. Originally from Andalusia, the southern region of Spain, it developed from the interaction of the many cultures that inhibited this region for centuries. Traditional dances include the joyful Alegrias, with songs that are light and carefree in spirit; the Tango, one of the oldest and most basic gypsy forms; and the Soleres, the essence and root of flamenco with its themes of romantic tragedy, desolation and death. The flamenco party frequently ends por Bulerias, with a “jam session” in which the performers take turns to “show their stuff.”

    <description>Date: Sun, Feb 13, 2011
Time: 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM

Description: Retired Torrance turkey farmers, Mel &amp; Betty Vaccaro of the Mira Loma Turkey Ranch, are ready to &quot;Talk Turkey&quot;. It's a presentation you'll be sure to gobble up!

The Vaccaro's will recount how what began as a family-owned-and-operated asparagus farm during World War I (back when property was selling for $25 an acre in Torrance on the &quot;flat land&quot; and $10 an acre on &quot;the hill&quot;), grew to become a full-time turkey ranch after World War II. Located on Victor Street in West Torrance, the Mira Loma Turkey Ranch provided fresh turkeys to the South Bay for 38 consecutive years before closing their doors in 1986.

The Mira Loma Turkey Ranch was long lasting, but . . . over time, property was sold off, and soon houses and schools (West High School and Victor Elementary) replaced turkeys, asparagus, strawberry, and flower farms.

    <author> Trinidad Ruiz</author>
    <description>Date: Tue, Feb 15, 2011
Time: 11:00 AM - 5:00 PM

Description: The premise of the show is to spotlight a selection of established California based artists who gained prominence and/or were developing important bodies of work during the 1960's.

GALLERY TWO: Simon Willems - A CERTAIN WAY TO FADE - This project is part of a broader one that takes contemporary news stories about hermits as a lens through which to foreground personalised utopias. Like other recent motifs the work engages with the rhetoric of belief systems, their failure, as well as the complexity of individual choice and purpose.
