Torrance Airport (3315 Airport Drive, Torrance, 90505)
From the twinkle in Jimmy Carter’s eye to deliverance by Bill Clinton, the B2 Spirit or as everyone would call it, The Stealth Bomber (nicknamed the Flying Wing), ended up being Northrup Grumman’s cherry on the sundae. A project that lasted four (Clinton, Reagan, Bush/40, Clinton) Presidents, each “Flying Wing” cost just over $2B (1997 dollars; $3.1B in 2017 dollars), only 21 of the originally planned 130 Stealth Bombers were built and exist today. Each is scheduled to last until 2058 – 40 more years. With a crew of two, the bomber deploys both conventional and thermonuclear weapons and is the only acknowledged aircraft that can carry large air-to-surface standoff weapons in a stealth configuration. Capable of all-altitude attack missions up to 50,000 feet; a range of 6,900 miles. Come join the WMoF as we have two of the Stealth Bomber test pilots: Troy Johnson, Aerospace Systems Sector Chief Test Pilot and Don Weiss, B-2 Chief Test Pilot. Two illustrious test pilots used their skill and technical expertise helped to demonstrate the practical capabilities of this remarkable aircraft. Be a part of the WMoF family. If you are a WMoF Member you can attend these monthly events FREE. Membership gives you one-year unlimited free admission to celebrity lectures, plus the quarterly newsletter, access to the research library (includes membership card) and access to special events. Members also will be listed in annual publications. Support your community’s unique museum and place in history.
