The Katy Geissert Civic Center Library is closed due to the Armed Forces Day Parade. Outside materials returns may be obstructed by parade staging. All other Torrance Libraries will be open regular hours, and online resources will be available.

Starting June 1, 2012, 50 person limit for this program. You must register to attend. You may register on Saturdays at 12 noon or you may register by calling the Nature Center at; (310)782-3989. If you plan to attend with a group each person must individually sign up. If you no show after you have signed up, you may not sign up again for 2 weeks. Join us for our restoration program every Saturday from 8:45 a.m. - 12 noon on the Preserve planting natives, weeding, propagating or maybe watering new plants. Wear closed toe shoes, bring gloves and be ready to work. Refreshments are provided. Rain cancels this program. Late comers will be sent away. If you are 15 years or younger you must be accompnied by a parent or guardian.

A beginner's guide to birds, bird life and behavior. Each class will include a short presentation about the featured birds followed by a walk on the Preserve to look for them. The US Army Los Angeles Community Advisory Board and the City of Torrance will be honoring over 500 local high school students who have elected to enter the Army upon graduation. The Community Salute to Future Soldiers will be held at 1PM (0900HRS) in conjunction with the Torrance Armed Forces Day Parade, the largest in its kind, on Saturday, 19 May 2012 in El Prado Park, Torrance, CA. The Army’s Deputy Chief of Staff Lt. General Bostick will be the guest speaker. There will also be a promotion ceremony for select future soldiers, parade participation, as well as static displays of Army equipment. All Army guests will be treated to lunch provided by USO and Torrance Police Department.

Enter Beth Bailey, Suzannah's newly hired assistant, a gregarious highly motivated daughter of the South. Beth explodes into the Hayden household and whips it into an organized, well run machine. When Gibby realizes it's Suzannah's career Beth is really after, he sets out to save his marriage aided by Suzannah's best friend. Their efforts to stop Beth at any costs sets up the wildly funny climax in which things go uproariously awry!

"Friday Fun" is a hands-on program for preschoolers, ages 3-6 years and their parents or guardians. The program will be offered at no charge every Friday from 10-12:00 p.m. The program will incorporate story time, science, art and a tour emphasizing the chosen topic. Some weeks there will also be potting or other activities. The topics emphasize respect for all living things and prepare the children (and parents) to be good stewards of the planet.
