Read twenty minutes per day, and complete your reading log by July 28 for a Certificate of Completion. Visit the Torrance Library weekly, telling the Librarian about your reading, and receive a fun incentive. The Torrance Public Library Summer Reading Program is free for babies through high school, and generously sponsored by the Friends of the Torrance Library, the ExxonMobil Foundation, the Torrance Teachers Association, and other generous donors. Don’t spend Summer at home! Come to summer camp and enjoy fun filled days participating in indoor crafts, outdoor games, walking field trips and an excursion every week! Torrance Summer Camps will hold 10 weekly sessions from Monday, June 18, 2012 to Friday, August 24, 2012, 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Fees range from $125 to $155 per week. Fun Camp, for ages 6-11, is held at Greenwood Park and La Romeria Park. Teen Camp, for ages 12-14, is held at Greenwood Park. Sports Camp, for ages 7-13, is held at Wilson Park. Extended Care is also available for Camps. Morning Care is 7:00 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. Fees are $20 for residents and $25 for non-residents. "Friday Fun" is a hands-on program for preschooler, ages 3-6 years and their parents or guardians. The program will be offered at no charge every Friday from 10-12:00 p.m. The program will incorporate story time, science, art and a tour emphasizing the chosen topic. Some weeks there will also be potting or other activities. The topics emphasize respect for all living things and prepare the children (and parents) to be good stewards of the planet. A fund-raising event to benefit Family Promise of the South Bay. Similar to a walk-a-thon, participants raise money in pledges, then sleep overnight in a carboard box to raise awareness for homeless families in the South Bay. Awards/prizes, entertainment, speakers, games and food provided. Deadline to register July 23rd.

Starting June 1, 2012, 50 person limit for this program. You must register to attend. You may register on Saturdays at 12 noon or you may register by calling the Nature Center at; (310)782-3989. If you plan to attend with a group each person must individually sign up. If you no show after you have signed up, you may not sign up again for 2 weeks. Join us for our restoration program every Saturday from 8:45 a.m. - 12 noon on the Preserve planting natives, weeding, propagating or maybe watering new plants. Wear closed toe shoes, bring gloves and be ready to work. Refreshments are provided. Rain cancels this program. Late comers will be sent away. If you are 15 years or younger you must be accompnied by a parent or guardian.
