Meet Louis Zamperini, one of the world’s greatest living examples of bravery and perseverance. His story has been documented in Pulitzer Prize winning author, Laura Hillenbrand’s latest book, Unbroken: Louis Zamperini’s Story of Survival, Resilience and Redemption. Despite the psychological and physical torture that Louis endured during his time in a Japanese POW camp, Louis returned to Japan to preach the gospel of forgiveness to the very guards who had tormented him during the war. Years later Louis was invited to carry the Olympic flame, just outside the town where he had been held captive.

James Armstron Theatre [Torrance Cultural Arts Center] 3330 Civic Center Drive
Like a lavish three-course dinner, this trio of one-acts is “smartly directed by James Robinson and conducted with sweeping lyricism by Patrick Summers” (San Francisco Chronicle). Soprano Patricia Racette tackles all three soprano roles. “Racette modulated the quality and tone of her radiant, muscular sound accordingly. The title role in Suor Angelica is the real soprano showcase, a virtuoso exercise in both soaring vocalism and emotional specificity, and Recette rose superbly to the challenge” (SFC). (2 hours 49 minutes; two intermissions).
