Though the Prohibition period in which alcohol was banned in the USA ended eighty years ago, the cultural reverberations of that era are still with us. Some of the changes, such as the rize and glamorization of organized crime, are obvious, but there are more subtle changes that affect our daily lives more profoundly. Culinary historian Richard Foss will give an illustrated lecture on America as it was before Prohibition took hold and how dining options, food preferences, dating habits, and other elements of our culture were changed by a utopian cultural experiment gone wrong. Richard Foss is a journalist and author who is currently working on a book about the history of dining in the air, from the zeppelin era to the space station. He is the author of "Rum: A Global History" and a memeber of the Board of the Culinary Historians of Southern California.
