Join Cindy Reid every 4th Tuesday and Wednesday of every month from 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 noon (rain or shine) for a hands-on science nature class. Emphasis will be placed on caring for the natural world and being good stewards of the planet. This month's topic will be Ducks and Water Birds. The first hour will be in the classroom for stories, a craft and science including live animals or plants and microscope use. The second hour will be walking out on the marsh to search for the things that we just studied. You will need to register for each month, starting the first of that month. Only 12 children may attend each class. We will do our best to be fair. A wait list up to 4 children will be added in case of cancellations. The participating children may be signed-in and dropped off for the first hour; parents may watch quietly in the back of the classroom. No younger siblings will be allowed in the classroom, but they are welcome to join us for the marsh walk. Ages 6-8 years. $5 donation requested per student. The program will be offered at no charge every Friday from 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. Best to register on Tuesday for that week's Friday Fun Program. The program will incorporate story time, science, art and a tour emphasizing the chosen topic. Some weeks there will also be potting or other activities. The topics emphasize respect for all living things and prepare the children (and parents) to be good stewards of the planet. Pre-registration is required. Space is limited to 20 kids. Free! Please join CSUDH professor Connie Vadheim for entertaining and educational classes on various native plant topics. This class occurs the 1st Saturday of every month from 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 noon and repeats the following Tuesday from 6:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. Every month is a different topic - never the same class twice. Topics range from 'Edible Seeds and berries' to 'Chaparral Communities and Pruning Techniques'. This month's topic is Warfare in the Garden: how plants protect themselves from pests and invasions. After each presentation, Connie will lead the class through the Nature Center's Native Plant Garden to illustrate key points and further discussion. Handouts are included. South Bay Ballet’s 33rd season continues with its annual dance concert BRAVO! The Classical & Contemporary Ballet Experience, bringing world-class classical and contemporary ballet to the Southland while cultivating the work of the region’s top choreographers fused with emerging talent. Visiting artists include Ballet Yuma’s celebrated director and choreographer, Jon Cristofori; as well as Santa Cruz Ballet Theatre’s artistic director and award-winning choreographer, Robert Kelley. This season’s BRAVO! will also feature guest company, Santa Barbara Festival Ballet, along with a showcase piece of emerging choreography from Benjamin Simoens.
