Madrona Marsh Nature Center and Preserve, 3201 Plaza Del Amo, Torrance
Join Cindy Reid every 4th Tuesday and Wednesday of every month from 10:00 a.m. - noon (rain or shine) for a hands-on science nature class. Emphasis will be placed on caring for the natural world and being good stewards to the planet. This month's topic will be Seeds and How They Spread. The first hour will be in the classroom for stories, a craft and science including live animals or plants and microscope use. The second hour will be walking out on the marsh to search for the things that we just studied. You will need to register for each month, starting the first of that month. Only 12 children may attend each class. We will do our best to be fair. A wait list up to 4 children will be added in case of cancellations. The participating children may be signed-in and dropped off for the first hour, or the parents may watch quietly in the back of the classroom. No younger siblings will be allowed in the classroom, but they are welcome to join us for the marsh walk. Ages 6-8 years. $5 donation per student. "Friday Fun" is a hands-on program for preschoolers, ages 3-6 years and their parents or guardians. The program will be offered at no charge every Friday from 10:00 a.m. -12:00 p.m. It is to your advantage to register Tuesday for that week's Friday Fun Program. The program will incorporate story time, science, art and a tour emphasizing the chosen topic. Some weeks there will also be potting or other activities. The topics emphasize respect for all living things and prepare the children (and parents) to be good stewards of the planet. Pre-registration is required. Space is limited to 20 kids. Free! Please join CSUDH professor Dr. Connie Vadheim for entertaining and educational classes on various native plant topics. Every month is a different topic. Never the same class twice! Topics range from 'edible seeds and berrys' to 'Chaparrel Communities and pruning techniques'. This month's topic is Botany for Gardeners - key botanic concepts to improve your gardening. After each presentation, Connie will lead the class through the Nature Center's Native Plant Garden to illustrate key points and further discussion. Handouts are included. This class is best for adults. This class is held in the Madrona Marsh Nature Center the the 1st Saturday of every month from 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. and repeats the following Tuesday of every month from 6:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. Free! The South Bay Scooter Club meets the first Saturday of every month for a chance to ride around the South Bay on our scooters with fellow scooter enthusiasts. Though vintage Italian scooters are preferred, all types of scooters are always welcome. Meet at Claim Jumper restaurant in Torrance at 12:30pm. Ride leaves around 1pm-ish. Different routes and end spots are chosen every month. Come out and ride!!
