Torrance youth, don’t spend summer at home! Come to Summer Camp and enjoy fun filled days participating in indoor crafts, outdoor games, walking field trips and an excursion every week. Torrance Summer Camps will be in session Monday, June 27, 2016 – Friday, September 2, 2016 from 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Fees range from $130 to $155 per week. Summer Day Camps will be held at Greenwood Park, La Romeria Park and Wilson Park. Teen Camp will be held at Greenwood Park. Morning Care and Extended Care will be available at all camps for an additional fee. Children will have the opportunity to participate in structured activities such as crafts, cooking and games. The fee for Mini Kids Club is $50 for residents and $55 a session for non-residents. The After School Club Program is geared towards youth in elementary and middle schools. This recreation program is designed to promote self-esteem through group interaction and self-expression. The program offers games, sports, music, group discussions, guest speakers and a wide variety of activities. Structured time is set aside for homework each day. This is not a tutorial based program. This program is based on a ratio of one staff member per ten youth at elementary schools and one staff member per thirteen youth at middle schools. Enrollment is limited at all schools. All participants must be a student at the school for which they are registering and also must be picked up by an adult, age 18 or older. Walk-in registration begins August 23, 2016. "Friday Fun" is a hands-on program for pre-schoolers, ages 3-6 years and their parents or guardians. The program will incorporate story time, science, art and a tour emphasizing the chosen topic. Some weeks there will be potting and other activities. The topics emphasize respect for all living things and prepare the children (and parents) to be good stewards of the planet. Join us for our Habitat Restoration program every Saturday of every month from 8:45 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. on the Madrona Marsh Preserve planting natives, weeding, propagating or maybe watering new plants. Wear closed toe shoes, bring gloves and be ready to work. Refreshments are provided. Rain or a holiday that fall on a Saturday cancels this program. Be on time - late comers will not be able to work.
