The City of Torrance Community Services Department in partnership with The Home Depot will be hosting the Carpenter Wagon this summer. Staff will help children ages 6-14 create a variety of wood craft projects. Parents/guardians must be present in order for their child to participate. Sessions are limited to 20 participants, and are offered on a first come, first serve basis. Registration will be taken 10 minutes prior to the start of each session. Participation is limited to one session per child per day. This program is based on a ratio of one staff member per ten youth at elementary schools and one staff member per thirteen youth at middle schools. Enrollment is limited at all schools. All participants must be a student at the school for which they are registering and also must be picked up by an adult, age 18 or older. Walk-in registration begins August 23, 2016. The City of Torrance Community Services Department invites the public to stop in for fun at the parks this summer. Recreation staff will be leading and supervising activities and crafts at no cost. Young children should be accompanied by an adult as this is a drop-in program where children can come and go as they please. The After School Club Program is geared towards youth in elementary and middle schools. This recreation program is designed to promote self-esteem through group interaction and self-expression. The program offers games, sports, music, group discussions, guest speakers and a wide variety of activities. Structured time is set aside for homework each day. This is not a tutorial based program. This program is based on a ratio of one staff member per ten youth at elementary schools and one staff member per thirteen youth at middle schools. Enrollment is limited at all schools. All participants must be a student at the school for which they are registering and also must be picked up by an adult, age 18 or older. Walk-in registration begins August 23, 2016.
