G. Pat Macha, described as the “the Indiana Jones of plane wrecks”, will tell the tale of the Vultee Legacy and history of the Vultee Aircraft Company. Macha, a retired history teacher has identified 3,700 plane crash sites in California and visited more than 800 such sites. Author of three books and aircraft historian, Macha is familiar with the legend of Vultee founders Jerry Vultee and Vance Breese; the Vultee Aircraft Corporation and eventual merger with Consolidated Aircraft Corporation (1943) to form the Consolidated Vultee Aircraft Corporation, i.e., Convair.
Vultee and Breese had redesigned the V-1 aircraft to meet American Airlines' needs and gave birth to the new eight-passenger V-1A. American purchased 11 V-1As. The Vultee died when the twin-engine Douglas DC-2s and DC-3s came on the scene.
By 1937 Jerry Vultee had his own production factory in Downey with orders for V-1s, V-1As and V-11s. Regrettably in 1938, Jerry Vultee died when the plane he was piloting crashed in a snowstorm near Sedona, Arizona.
Vultee Aircraft Division began to develop military designs creating the BT-13, BT-15, and SNV Valiant trainers, V-72 Vengeance, etc. The XP-54 fighter project was the last Vultee Aircraft design.
As always, WMOF Members are free; non-members are $5, which also includes access to WMOF museum exhibits. Free parking. BTW, a WMoF membership (www.wmof.com/newmem.htm) can be yours for as little as $50 annually giving you one-year unlimited FREE admission to the WMoF museum, all the Celebrity Series Lectures, Quarterly Newsletters, access to the research library and access to Special Events.

Donizetti’s charming comedy is a celebration of innocence, so what setting could be better than a small Italian-American community in Napa Valley, circa 1915? In this ingenious update, the naïve Nemorino believes that a love potion will win him Adina’s heart. Blossoming from a shy Italian immigrant to a plucky entrepreneur, he captures both his sweetheart and the American dream over the course of this delightful opera buffa. Tenor Ramon Vargas superbly embodies the role of the lovesick Nemorino. The beautiful but aloof Adina is sung by soprano Inva Mula. Recorded fall 2008, War Memorial Opera House, San Francisco. In Italian; English subtitles; one intermission.
