There will be an exhibit of rocks from all over the world that display beautiful colors under ultraviolet lights presented by the Fluorescent Mineral Society. This exhibit is one of the most comprehensive and varied collections of fluorescent minerals you will ever see in one place. There will also be ‘how to’ demonstrations such as bead working, sphere making, gem carving, glass bead making, workshops for kids, and more.

The Arts Council of Torrance will sponsor its first Annual Poetry Slam Competition. Applicants may be adults, middle, or high school students. The students may be enrolled in a Torrance school or home-schooled, or be a resident of Torrance. For adults, there is no residency requirement. Cash prizes will be awarded. All applicants whose original poems are accepted for the competition must be available to read their poems at the Slam. Each applicant will have a reading time not to exceed three minutes. Only appropriate content will be accepted. Poems will be judged by a panel of poets and ACT Board Members.
